Spread a Smile brings joy, laughter and connection to seriously ill children, young people and their families during some of the toughest times in their lives.

These children face long hospital stays, intensive treatment and the many physical and emotional challenges serious illness can bring. We believe every child deserves the chance to smile, have fun and simply be a child, no matter what they are going through.

Working in partnership with 39 NHS hospitals and six hospices, our team of entertainers – from magicians, musicians, artists, fairies and therapy dogs – delivers in-person and virtual visits and events that help reduce anxiety, enhance wellbeing, and remind families that there are still moments of joy to be found. 

What makes Spread a Smile special is our highly personalised approach. We take the time to get to know every child, family and healthcare setting, building meaningful relationships that enable us to provide support where it is needed most.

The impact of our work is clear. 100% of healthcare professionals say Spread a Smile improves the hospital experience, 99% report a positive impact on patients' mental health and well being and 92% of parents say our visits reduce anxiety.

This year, our goal is to deliver 23,000 smiles to seriously ill children.  

As a charity that is 100% reliant on voluntary donations and fundraising income, we need to raise £2.3 million this year to fund our services.
