The Chabad community in London has grown rapidly in recent years, creating a strong demand for more tailored and meaningful educational opportunities for Jewish students. In response, a grassroots, student-led initiative was born inside Hasmonean High School, affectionately known as Hasmo, London’s largest Orthodox boys’ school, with over 1,000 students spread across its High School and Middle School campuses.

With no official Chabad programme in place, Chabad @Hasmo began as a small, informal group driven by students who wanted to live with purpose and bring warmth, depth, and meaning into school life. In a setting where religious identity can sometimes fade into the background, Chabad @Hasmo gives students the opportunity to explore, strengthen, and proudly live their Yiddishkeit in a way that feels relevant, joyful, and real.

Since our last fundraiser in 2023, the growth has been phenomenal. We now run dozens of weekly initiatives that reach hundreds of students, including tefillin stands, the Moshiach Minute series, Lunch ‘n’ Learns, Tanya classes, Waffle Wednesdays, farbrengens, Shabbatons, and much more.

Chabad @Hasmo fills a gap, offering connection, identity, and inspiration in moments and spaces where school doesn’t usually reach.

This is Chabad @Hasmo:

Live it: Living with Chassidus not just as an idea, but as a real and daily way of life.

Love it: Bringing warmth, joy, and genuine connection into everything we do, through shared experiences that make Yiddishkeit and Chassidus feel real, alive, and part of who we are.

Light it up: Sharing that light with Hasmo and beyond. Once we've lived it and loved it, it's time to pass it on.

As the Rebbe famously said:

“If you know Aleph, teach Aleph. If you know Beis, teach Beis.”

With a brand-new team of student leaders, true lamplighters, now in place, the vision ahead is bigger than ever. From new learning platforms to leadership programmes, from large-scale events to even more creative ways to connect and inspire, they say the sky’s the limit!

We’re aiming to raise £10,000 in just 36 hours.

These funds will help power everything, the programmes you know and love, plus the next wave of ideas set to uplift and inspire even more students across Hasmo and beyond.
