While Proactive measures made our communities safer, we knew crime was fluid. Criminals do not respect geographic boundaries. The same gang responsible for a cash-in-transit robbery in Krugersdorp could easily commit a home invasion in Sandton or Hyde Park the next day.
This led to Offensive Intervention
- Through donor support, we launched the Special Intervention Unit (SIU)—a dedicated intelligence and operational force.
- We identified violent syndicates, targeted their leaders, and carried out strategic arrests—not only inside CAP areas but across the city.
The results have been extraordinary
- 351 violent criminals arrested over the past year.
- 252 hijacked vehicles recovered.
- 104 firearms taken off the streets.
- An estimated 1,872 violent crimes prevented—protecting not just CAP areas, but the broader urban environment.
Every offender we remove—even outside our direct footprint—breaks the cycle of violence that otherwise finds its way into our homes, streets, and communities.
The SIU continues to target active threats, dismantle syndicates, and disrupt criminal operations in real time—protecting both CAP communities and the city at large. With sustained support, we will go further, act faster, and protect more.
